Just in case you’re one of the unlucky people unfamiliar with My Fair Lady, here’s a brief overview: based on a play written by George Bernard Shaw, it concerns a young, Cockney flower-seller named Eliza Doolittle, whose life is turned on its head when she meets renowned phonetician Henry Higgins. Combined with the shimmers and bright colours in the costumes and sets, this production fills the senses with wonder. The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Marrett, was on fine form, and the ensemble harmonised like a dream. I could have watched the cast of My Fair Lady dance all night!
